Fraunhofer at ACHEMA 2022

Solutions for a successful raw material and energy transition

Press release /

At the world's leading trade fair for the process industry, ACHEMA in Frankfurt am Main, the Fraunhofer alliance for the chemistry lead market will present itself to the industry as a strong partner thanks to its combined expertise. From August 22 to 26, 2022, the participating institutes will showcase their current joint research activities, which focus on several areas. These include the digitalization of chemical processes, further development of green chemistry, facilitation of scale-up, safety and regulatory issues, and the efficiency of chemical processes as well as the development of a circular economy.

Production processes that are defossilized and circular — nothing less is the goal of the chemical industry in Germany. For those responsible, there are still major challenges ahead on the road to greater sustainability and green chemistry. The Fraunhofer Chemistry Alliance has dedicated itself to successfully mastering the individual steps in collaboration with industry partners. Building on decades of collaboration between the 15 participating Fraunhofer institutes and the chemical industry, as well as with each other, the experts focus on developing basic research results to a higher level of technological maturity and on supporting their partners in large-scale implementation — with a highly modern research infrastructure from laboratory to pilot scale.

"The particular strength of our alliance lies in the complementary skills and the high professional qualifications of its employees. Our stated goal is to leverage these skills and interdisciplinary synergies to provide even better and more targeted support to our industrial customers in technology development and scaling. In this way, we can efficiently develop sustainable, innovative products and processes," explains Dr. Stefan Löbbecke, branch manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT. "We offer our industrial customers a kind of one-stop shop for applied research and development — in a variety of possible cooperation formats. These can be urgent troubleshooting projects, exclusive process and product developments, or strategic projects to meet the challenges they currently face in a changing world. We look forward to providing insight into the breadth of our solutions and engaging in intensive exchanges with our customers at ACHEMA 2022."
