Energetic Materials – Characterization and Modeling of
Ignition Process, Reaction Behavior and Performance

Within the scope of application-oriented new developments and the continuing evolution of energetic materials, a detailed investigation and description of phenomena occurring during chemical reactions is essential.

Current examples include functioning mechanisms within the after-burn reaction of blast-enhanced explosives, the feasibility of scalable performance properties, insensitive and precise igniters which do not require primary explosives, new gun propellants adapted to the requirements of innovative weapon technologies and pyrotechnics such as nanothermites and improved decoy materials to counter modern seeker technologies.

Besides performance testing, new and improved characterization methods focus on the investigation of safety issues, including stability properties, low sensitivity against shock, temperature, friction and impact and last but not least a high level of environmental compatibility throughout the life cycle of the materials.

To cover these broad requirements, intrusive but also increasingly non-intrusive methods such as spectroscopy and digital high-speed imaging, paired with sophisticated image analysis and evaluation methods, are successfully employed. The additional results obtained constitute a basis for theoretical modeling and simulation, which allows more accurate predictions in complex fields such as ignition, reaction kinetics, combustion and detonation physics.

The 44th International Annual Conference of the Fraunhofer ICT will again be a meeting place to present new concepts and methods, to review the state-of-the-art and to discuss and evaluate achievements in the international explosives community.

• Registration up to June 17:
  EURO 1.250,– (incl. 19 % VAT)

Participation cannot be guaranteed for registrations arriving after June 17, 2013. The fee must be paid upon receipt of the invoice by remittance to the account given on the invoice.

Cancellation Policy

EURO 400,– will be charged for cancellations after June 17, 2013. No-shows will be charged with EURO 800,–.

Check in / Welcome Reception

Please check in at the conference office on Tuesday, June 25 between 16.00 and 20.00 h. All participants are cordially invited to the Welcome Reception on the same day, starting at 18.00 h in the foyer of the Stadthalle.

One copy is included in the registration fee. Additional copies cost EURO 99,– (Subscription price during the conference EURO 70,–).

Tour of the institute

The Fraunhofer ICT can be visited on Friday, June 28 at the end of the conference. The tour of the Institute is followed by a farewell party with draught beer, barbecue and fireworks (after sunset). Please mark on your registration form whether you
wish to participate.
